The Touch Of Love When The Kids Are Sick

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Vicks VapoRub and Latina Bloggers Connect.

Quality time and physical touch are two love languages for most children, and I recall times I was sick as a child and my mom would cuddle with me, stroke my forehead and hair when I wasn’t feeling well, and rub VapoRub on my chest to help me breath better. These were some of my favorite memories of time with her.

It may sound odd to have fond memories of being sick as a child, but often it’s one of the few times parents spend quiet time alone with their child, away from everything, giving them undivided attention. For many, staying home sick is actually a soothing, special memory of time alone with mom or grandma taking care of them.

When my children are sick, I cuddle with them too. I read to them, bring them hot chocolate, stroke their foreheads, and rub Vicks VapoRub onto their chest. They love having me sit with them and spend time together, getting all my attention, and I want them to always remember feeling safe and loved when they felt their worst.

Spending time with my boys when they are ill reminds me of those quiet times as a child, knowing that someone was there and feeling incredibly safe and loved. I also loved the menthol and eucalyptus smell of VapoRub, and if my mom read me a story or painted my nails while I lay there, I felt like a princess. I make sure to read to my boys while they lie down too, until they fall asleep.

The weather changes are drastic this time of year, and if your children become sick, spending time with them can make them feel as good as any medicine can. Cuddling with your children, stroking their hair and back, and the feeling of having VapoRub rubbed onto their chest will make them feel safe and close to you too.
