Dad Missed A Birthday So We Celebrated Again!

Holidays and celebrations aren’t the same without dad, but sometimes parents have to work on holidays. My husband wasn’t able to celebrate our son’s birthday with us this year. He not only missed the party we had with all the boys in his class during his 14 days-straight work stretch, he wasn’t home on the day itself during the hours my son was awake.

The boys said they understood, and they are super proud of their hard-working dad, but I could tell they wished he was there. They wished he could be home for many of the things he often has to miss, and I knew he wished he could be with them celebrating too.

My boys don’t feel like it’s really a party unless daddy is there too, so our kids surprised him with their own celebration on his first night off, as soon as he returned home. We had a RITZ Mini Pizza party! We recreated the birthday bash with just us four and sang Happy Birthday again, this time with their favorite dude sitting at the table and singing along.

They made RITZ Mini Pizzas, drank iced tea and ate cake, and spent the rest of the evening playing board games together. It was the perfect birthday party for my son.

Here is how we made our mini pizzas- you can recreate it when you have a party to share a special moment with the parent who couldn’t be there.

Everyone made their own mini pizzas, and the best part is, we did it together, which is how we always want to celebrate. Dad (or mom) may not be home for every play, birthday, or milestone, but that doesn’t mean everyone can’t recreate the party when they are together.
