How We Hold On To Our Favorite Memories

We have a great picture of our son. He looks happy and handsome, and I didn’t want it buried among thousands of archived digital photos on my computer external hard drive, never to be seen again. Sometimes you take a picture that stands out and you want to display it and share it with everyone who comes into your home… a canvas-worthy picture…

Is it Canvas-Worthy?

Most of us don’t have a images around the house of those we love, and we are no exception. But I’d like something a little grander than a 4×6 on our mantle… I want images of those that matter to me all around our home, displayed in a way that adds to the decor- images that are aesthetically appealing and pieces of art (and preferable not behind a sheet of glass that can break and needs to be dusted often).

My favorite images of my sons as babies are now canvases, and I love so much how canvas prints add to the home design that I plan to selectively add more quality canvas images to the family room, living room, and even dining room. I’ve tried a few companies over the years, and recently tried Collage.com for the first time, and finally found a favorite.

Collage.com canvas portraits are made with a good canvas, the image is sharp and beautiful, and the back is reinforced by a thick card stock or poster board. One of our baby pictures was printed by another company on flimsy canvas that feels like paper and has already torn. These images are important enough to us that we want to display them on the walls of our home, so the quality of the photo canvas matters, and Collage.com offers thick canvas photo prints at a great price.

Not only is the price terrific, especially for such quality gallery-wrapped canvases, Collage.com also has additional great deals all the time. Now to sift through all those hundreds of digital images for a Collage.com canvas-worthy picture of my other son, and these two 16 x 20 pieces of canvas artwork are going to flank our server in the dining room, making them the first thing people see when they enter the room.

Collage.com also offers other great products, like vibrant fleece photo blankets (though I wouldn’t sleep or wash these too much out of fear of ruining them.. I’d probably display them on a couch or bed). They make photo gifts, photo puzzles, tees and desk products, cutting boards, aprons, photo books and much, much more. Their gallery-wrapped canvases are printed in the US. I was so happy with the canvas print of my son that I wanted to try out more products from Collage.com.

Our Year In Review

Every year I create a photobook for the previous year, with all my favorite pictures. I do this:

1. Download digital images to my computer
2. Sift through and pick out favorites from photo sessions, particularly any that have special meaning, a holiday, or show my sons doing something he loves and makes us proud.
3. I put those best images into a sub-folder marked with the year.
4. At the end of the year, I take those best images and create a photo book at Collage.com.

Our best images aren’t lost in digital space or on external hardware… they are collected and bound into a beautiful coffee table photo book that we can cherish and peruse through as often as we like. We can look back and remember as often as we want, without having to drag out dusty photo albums or hunt through thousands of bad photos on our computer’s photo storage. I’ve been creating photo books sharing our favorite family times of the past year every January for three years now, and plan to continue to do it as the boys get older and we create more memories!
