Bring Your Coloring To Life With Augmented Reality from @Crayola #ColorAlive

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Crayola. All opinions are 100% mine.

Remember back when virtual reality seemed like light years away, but we dreamed about how cool it would be to realize such a futuristic achievement? We just wanted the option of being part of that sort of holographic, computerizes reality, but while the idea of it seemed mind blowing, it also seemed equally elusive.

Today, Crayola is leading the pack in bringing a sort of augmented reality world to our kids, not only continuing to inspire their creativity and imaginations with colorful arts and craft products, but taking what they create and, with the help of a free downloadable app that actually scans their artistry, bringing it to life on their tablet…and through the screen the exact animation they colored can jump to life and hop around on their desk or fly around a room, take pictures with them, interact, and more. Crayola changes color forever with Crayola Color Alive, literally taking the drawing off the page of their coloring book and fusing their imagination with their real world.

Crayola Color Alive Action Coloring Pages is their first augmented reality product, and their digital portfolio is growing. I had my sons and nieces each color in one of four coloring books (Skylanders™, Barbie™, Enchanted Garden™ and Mythical Creatures™) using the included crayons, and then we uploaded their creations for them to play with, interact, and tell stories with. The app works with most devices with a camera, such as a tablet, mobile phone or iPod touch, and is free. Check out how amazing this is:

Each coloring book has 16 pages of beautiful pictures, crayons, and a special Magic Crayon which unlocks the virtual effect, like Fire-Breath and Pixie Dust, and are available in most retailers for $5.99. They are also introducing new Action Coloring Pages in 8 page bundles that are available for $1.99 (with unlimited printing), and while the 16-page books come with crayons that coordinate with the books main characters, the app works with any crayons, so you can use other colors you already have as well. Our children love to color, but they definitely enjoyed interacting with their creations even more. The characters hung out around our house, danced on the my desk, and posed for selfies.

It’s fun for kids to bring their colors to life, and really easy to use (all four kids are between 3 and 5, and they were able to do it).

We are a huge Crayola family… I even have one whole closet filled with Crayola craft and art supplies. Love this idea! I know both my older kids would love to give this a try and my daughter would flip to create her own VR fairy. Thanks for sharing!

How amazing is that?!?! My son is older, but I think he would like this, besides… you’re never too old to enjoy coloring. 🙂
