The Moments In Between The Rushing

Raising boys is a never-ending adventure, and while there are definitely challenges, there are many more wonderful aspects. I feel so busy most days between household chores, writing blog posts, and shuttling my sons between school and lessons and play dates, and those slow moments I always wish would happen, where we’d just sit together, gadget-free, and enjoy a quite moment…. those never really transpire.

It feels me with a lot of guilt that I don’t always enjoy enough of these quickly passing moments with my sweet and funny little monkeys because I’m caught up in getting things done, especially when I catch a glimpse of how amazing they are, while running to the linen closet to put away the freshly laundered towels… my son hiding in my bedroom, snuggling into my covers, reading his children’s Bible:

I wasn’t even aware he knew we had it, but he must have noticed it on the book shelf and pulled it off to read. So sweet to see him reading it, and I hope this is a sign that he will have strong faith in his life.

Now that the weather is warm and sunny almost daily, and the awareness that my baby will be starting school for three full days next year is really starting to fill me with a sort of sad longing that’s been bubbling under the surface for a while, we’ve been going on lunch dates together. I hope they are fun for him, and he remembers that once upon a time, he did these really fun things with his mama.

I’m going to chill with my family this summer, and take a breather (or five). I’m always saying this to myself, but the truth is this is really, really my last chance before both boys are in school and more interested in friends and hobbies and the outside world…this is it. The last summer.

Our summer plans? A family trip to Myrtle Beach, taking swimming lessons, planning to watch some great movies coming out in the theater (they particularly want to see Minions and my husband and I want to see Jurassic World), and they made sure to tell me that this summer they want to make sand castles. No problem!

So what are your summer plans?

  • Beth

My plans are to enjoy as much of the summer break as I can.

  • Jeanine

Love this! It’s so important to take a breather (or five!) I plan to do the same this summer. It’s been so busy this year, Its needed!

  • Sarah

We don’t have any big summer plans – a few play dates, video games, bowling, ice cream. Mostly just relaxing and enjoying the down time.

  • Tess

We don’t have summer plans. We like to have a lazy summer.

  • Karen

I don’t know all of the summer plans yet, but my daughter and I decided to spend at least one full day together this summer. She is a teacher, and during the school year, she is too busy to spend much time with me. So, we made a pact, and so far, so good. We spent today trying to learn how to use the Cricut I won last year.
