My Dream Home #MySunnyDay

It’s important to save for a rainy day, but how about saving for a Sunny Day? There are things in life you want to have, events you want to celebrate, and places you want to go…they are the Sunny Days of our lives. Wouldn’t it be great if you could experience all that with financial confidence and control?

You can if you save for the Sunny Days. Those moments when something that was a goal becomes a reality- the dream car, vacation, or home- those are the Sunny Days and you can enjoy them more and feel totally stress free when you saved for them.

About two years ago we bought our dream home. It was actually a major fixer upper, but for me, that’s a dream, because I love to fix things. And we sure did…major, long renovations. And we are still going (this summer we installed central air conditioning and automated garage doors). It’s a work in progress, but it’s our family home, our dream home, a beautiful brick and stone corner house with a white picket fence (we added that on ourselves too). It’s the home we saved to buy and renovate for our sons.

The day our offer was accepted? One of the sunniest days of my life.

The months of shopping around for our new home, followed by months of renovations, was fun for me, and I wasn’t stressed because I had saved for a down payment that would leave me with a mortgage I could afford. My best piece of advice is to save for a big down payment, then shop around for the best mortgage rates so you can still have a great life after you move into your dream home.

I knew my dream was to buy a house, particularly a fixer upper in a great neighborhood for a great deal, and to have the fun of making that home into exactly what I envision. I picked it all out, the granite counters in our beautiful new kitchen, the appliances, the color of the stain on the refinished hardwood floors and paint on the walls of every room. Every bit of it is now ours, and because we saved for our Sunny Day, we now relax in our dream home with confidence.
