Courageous

I love the new Christian movies that have become available, especially high quality Christian movies such as those produced by Sherwood Pictures. Fireproof, Flywheel, and Facing the Giants have all become favorites for me, and Sherwood Pictures recently held a private screening of the movie Courageous, a new Christian film about fatherhood among law enforcement men.

Courageous Movie

The screening of Courageous was held in New Jersey. I’m not allowed to talk about the plot of the movie, but I can tell you that like the three previous movies from the Kendrick brothers, I found it life-changing. I was never able to pick which movie I loved best, but now that I saw the movie Courageous, a Christian film about men in law enforcement and their relationsips with their family, specifically their roles as dads, I would have to pick this one. My husband is a police officer, and his role as dad is his most treasured role in life, along with being a good husband. Here is the Courageous film trailer:

Courageous the movie hits the big screen nationwide on September 30th, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it. I’m hoping Courageous will be played at theaters near me. Despite the existence of thousands of theaters in my city and the high anticipation of Fireproof, I could not find a single theater in NYC that would play it. I would have had to travel 2 hours to see it, so I had to wait to watch the movie Fireproof on DVD. It seems no one was willing to risk boycotting by playing Christian movies in theaters, even though it was a lovely movie about Christian covenant marriage. I think it’s time everyone gets with the program and realize we want to see quality Christian-themed movies- there is more money in supporting us than there is to be lost by a few boycotters.

Hollywood and the Academy Awards may turn a blind eye to quality Christian movies, but I can’t remember the last time I even kind of liked an Academy Award winning or nominated movie, so I really don’t look to them for recommendations anymore anyway. It’s a new time in film making, when the people are actually seeing what they want and word of mouth is the impetus for making movies successful.

My word of mouth can’t be more clear- go see Courageous when it hits theaters on September 30th. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I haven’t heard of any of these with the exception of Fireproof. I wonder if Netflix has any of these…

  • Louise

    Looks like a good movie!

  • Shop with Me Mama (Kim)

Fireproof was an amazing movie!! Hope this one is as great.

  • Heather @ Girl Gone Mom

I’ll have to check this out. I haven’t heard of it.

  • How are you supposed to promote a movie when you can’t talk about the plot?

  • It sounds like it’s going to be a fabulous film. I absolutely loved Fireproof, so I have high hopes! Now if September would hurry up and get here.

  • Hey Jen

I don’t watch a whole lot of tv or pay much attention to what’s coming out so I haven’t heard of these movies! I will check them out now though! Thanks!

  • Never heard of this, but sounds great.

Might have to check it out!

I don’t think Fireproof was in theaters near us either. I watched it on DVD and although the acting was just so-so, the message was powerful and much needed.

I loved this review! This movie sounds so moving and uplifting, I cannot wait for September to get here so I can go see it now!! Hollywood movies are lacking in quality content, they ruin otherwise wonderful plots with garbage like language and sexual content. I would love to see this movie, it sounds wonderful!

i just saw the movie Courageous this afternoon as our church rented out a local theater to have it shown. PLEASE see it if you can – you will be SO VERY GLAD you did. Presenting real life situations, it shared the Gospel like no other film I have seen, but was not ‘preachy. Our church has a follow-up get together planned for any men interested, not in our church, but in the meeting room at a large grocery store close-by. The movie is a reinforcement of the positive role of courageous men in the lives of their children, wives & community. Please try to see it! God bless you.

I had the priviledge of seeing Courageous on October 8, 2011. It is fantastic! I laughed and cried. This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. I have encouraged several people to go see it, especially parents. I hope the Kendrick Brothers continue to make this type of Christian movies. I hadn’t been to the movies for quite some time, since most of what was available was not fitting to watch. It’s good to know that there are some filmmakers with good, Christian values!

I agree…I love all of their movies, and I want to take all my family and friends to watch it again!
