Flipped- Movie Review and Giveaway (4 Winners) One Week Only

Facebook Twitter StumbleUpon Pin It

It’s rare that I see a movie that I really enjoy and think about long after. Especially not a “kids’” movie, but I flipped for Flipped! This movie is a coming of age story about the first love of an “iridescent” young girl who has a lifelong crush on the good-looking, popular boy who lives across the street. This is a great movie for kids, but it’s also a great movie for adults- I really enjoyed it.

Directed by Rob Reiner (who also directed Stand By Me and Sleepless in Seattle), the style of the movie is she said/he said, showing the same events from both perspectives, and is both sweetly heart-warming and very funny. There are some very touching moments that reminded me of my own youth, such as my desire to save things that were being taken away (like sitting in a beloved tree so it wouldn’t be torn down), and feeling judged for living more modestly than wealthier neighbors.

Featuring an almost all-star cast, including Aidan Quinn, Penelope Ann Miller, Anthony Edwards, Rebecca De Mornay, and John Mahoney (I love him!), this movie is top-notch, from the writing, to the acting, right down to the nostalgic settings of a time gone by.

This movie is 5/5 stars for me, easily a new favorite for our family dvd collection.

Buy it! Flipped is available on Amazon on both DVD and Blu-ray, and is eligible for free shipping.

Win it! I wasn’t planning to run anymore giveaways this month, but this movie sounded great, so I agreed to review is, and now I want to share it.  Warner Brothers has generously offered four readers a chance to win their own copy (regular format, not Blu-ray). This is a short giveaway, just one week long, so winners can get their copes before the holidays. To enter to win, simply leave a message below telling me your favorite movie of all time and why!

My first love was a boy in my third grade class. He would always ask me to rollerblade with him at the roller rink at our school outing.

My favorite movie of all time would probably have to be The Green Mile. I'm not a wuss when it comes to movies, I don't normally break down and cry even a tear…but this one had me SOBBING and burying my head on my (now husband's) chest because I was having an emotional breakdown!

My first love was this guy named Ian when I was a freshman in high school. I pined after this guy for YEARS then finally had the courage to make how I felt about him known, and he asked me out. It was amazing. At that age, I hadn't built up the self confidence that normally comes as you grow older, and I was shocked that he actually wanted to be with me. We spent most of our days locked at our mouths. Until I had to move away to another state. Being a military brat was crappy sometimes.
